Teen Kayak Camp
For the last 23 years, Wild Waters Outdoor Center has been one of the few whitewater schools that offers programs specifically for paddlers ages 10-17.  Our week-long programs in kayak instruction emphasize safety first and great fun on the river second.  Our low student to instructor ratio, reliable summer whitewater, and riverfront location combine to provide teens with the perfect learning experience.

The first, one-week session for beginner/novice paddlers introduces the proper stroke techniques for whitewater paddling, including: eddy turns, peel-outs, and ferries.  River rescue, safety, and the Eskimo roll are also introduced and practiced.  The highlight of the week are runs on the Sacandaga River.

The second week is for intermediate paddlers, and reinforces proper stroke technique, which progresses into the Eskimo roll and surfing small waves.  The second week highlights paddling trips on the Sacandaga, Hudson and Black rivers.  The two, one-week sessions may be combined together to form a two-week session.  Space is limited to 12 students so please make your reservation early.

Includes:  24-hour supervision, equipment, lodging/camping, meals and transportation.
Dates:  July 16 - July 12, 2008
Cost:  $649/ 6 days

ACA Instructor Certification
The Kayaking Instructor Workshop series is scheduled in cooperation with the American Canoe Association and taught by Douglas Azaert.  This course is divided into 2 sessions.

The Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) is designed to help you develop your teaching style and paddling technique.  The Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) is the evaluation for meeting ACA requirements for flatwater, moving water or whitewater certification.

You must be a competent paddler prior to enrolling in the course.  The course emphasis is on teaching skills, classroom communication and paddling technique.  Upon completion of course, you will be required to present lectures and demonstrations both on and off the water.

Includes:  Course materials and handbook.  Lodging and meals are available upon request.
Dates:  June 18-21, 2008
Cost:  $419/ per person

Swiftwater Rescue Workshop
What happens when your boat pins? What do you do when you witness a foot entrapment? How do you do a z-drag? If these questions ever entered your mind while on the river then come and take our 2-day Swiftwater Rescue Course. Taught by our in-house ACA certified Swiftwater Instructor, Richard Morse, you will learn a variety of rescue techniques. Reinforce basic rescue skills, self rescue, throw ropes, boat assisted rescue, multiple scenarios and develop advanced rope-based and in-water skills. Participants should be in good shape and comfortable paddling and swimming in Class II whitewater. Required equipment: PFD, whistle, booties/watershoes, helmet, throwbag, suitable clothing for extended time in the river.

Includes:  Lunch and instruction
Dates:  June 21-22, July 12-13, and August 9-10
Cost:
  $199
